Alexandra Levits Water Cooler Wisdom Are You on Top of HR Disruption

Alexandra Levit's Water Cooler Wisdom Are You on Top of HR Disruption HR used to be easy. Hand out cut-and-dry information, and make sure said employees consumed said information. But today, technology innovations impacting HR business processes have professionals simultaneously looking for ways to uplevel the function, and fearing that machines will take their jobs. Specifically, HR pros have had to contend with the following transformations, as the field moves from: Transactional HR to Strategic HR Uni-Directional Communication to Cross-Directional Communication Legacy Human Capital Management Systems to Flexible HCM Systems Technology Product Use by a Few to Technology Product Use by Many Technology Product Use in the Office to Technology Product Use Anywhere Digital Posting to Digital Relationship Building Static Online Learning to Experiential Online Learning The Rise of Disruption Almost 20 years ago, Harvard Business School professorClayton Christensenfirst coined the termdisruptive technology, referring to technology that displaces an established technology and shakes up an industry or a groundbreaking product that creates a completely new industry. Christensen separated new technology into two categories: disruptive and sustaining. Sustaining technologies rely on incremental improvements to an already established technology, and large companies are designed to work with these types. They excel at knowing their market, staying close to their customers, and having a mechanism in place to develop existing technology. They also have trouble capitalizing on the potential efficiencies, cost-savings, or new marketing opportunities created by disruptive technologies. Even in 1997, Christensen nailed the issue facing many HR organizations today: it’s easy to dismiss the value of a disruptive technology because it does not reinforce current company goals, only to be blindsided as the technology matures, gains a larger audience, and threatens the status quo. Althoughdisruptionis everywhere, there are four specific technologies in which the modern HR pro must become proficient: cloud computing (HR as a service), mobile, predictive analysis, and virtual reality. Learn How to Brand Yourself From a Rabbi! - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Learn How to Brand Yourself From a Rabbi! - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I interview Rabbi Levi Brackman about what Judaism can teach us about personal branding and how to become more successful in business.   We talk about how spiritual entrepreneurship and how you can take concepts in the Torah and apply them to real life business situations.   I also asked him questions about perception and Jewish stereotypes. A lot of people stereotype Jews (Im a Jew) about being rich, greedy and smart business people. How would you respond to this criticism/compliment? Clearly not all Jews are rich, smart or greedy. Any type of stereotype is unhelpful and very often stems from or leads to racism. This stereotype of Jews being rich or greedy is no different and it very often leads to or stems from anti-Semitism. Nonetheless, it is undeniable that Jewish people have really made their mark as savvy business people and the statistics point to the fact that Jews have been disproportionately successful in areas related to business and finance. For example: Jewish people make up less than one half of one percent of the world’s population. But they make up more than ten percent of the Forbes 400 list of the world’s wealthiest people. So the statistics indicate that Jewish people are disproportionately successful in business and finance in a way that far outweighs their numbers. This is not a stereotype it is a fact. But it is far from saying that ALL Jews are rich, greedy or smart. What can the Torah reveal about conquering fear, dealing with failure and harvesting the power of positivity? Conquering Fear: In order to conquer fear you must be aware when fear based responses are manifesting themselves in your thinking and then stop them from dictating your actions. Dealing with Failure: The response that a person has to perceived failure will dictate their future success. In short the best way to deal with failure is not to see setbacks as failure, rather one must see the silver lining and opportunities inherent in any situation no matter how negative it may seem. The power of positivity is the concept of ensuring that one is constantly only attracting the things that one really wants to attract. The way to do this is through positive thoughts, speech and action. Action being the important thing to also keep in mind. Affirmations, visualizations and other tools for attracting positive outcomes can only work is they come hand in hand with positive actions. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfQIqjOu760] Can you give an example of a non-jew and a jew that have used sacred Jewish texts for their own business success? The ideas found within the Torah and other ancient texts relate directly into successful business practices. Since Jewish people have spent thousands of years studying the Torah they have over the generations imbibed and absorbed its wisdom teachings. These teachings have then helped them become successful in business. This is also true for many secular Jews who have absorbed Torah teachings in the form of wisdom lessons they heard growing up from parents, grandparents uncles and aunts. They may not have been aware that many of those teachings have roots in the teachings of the Torah. What do you mean by using spiritual entrepreneurship? Why is it effective? Even successful business people have the need to feel fulfillment from their work. Even successful people are sometimes feel unhappy and unfulfilled with their work. Spiritual entrepreneurship is the concept of working hard in order to make money but at the same time doing it for a higher purpose. This eliminates what we call “Rich Guilt” and allows people to feel fulfilled and spiritually content with the money making process. More about spiritual entrepreneurship in chapter seven of “Jewish Wisdom for Business Success”. What have you learned about your personal brand, from being a rabbi to a business book author? How do you feel youre judged on a daily basis by others? That’s a great question. In “Jewish Wisdom for Business Success” we talk about the need for each individual to be aware of their own unique traits, talents and abilities. Each person has something unique that they are obligated to contribute to the Divine plan for the universe. In today’s world through the Internet one is able to connect with clients and potential business associates or friends anywhere around our globe. This enables us to be ourselves and attract business that is unique to us. For me the most important thing is to be authentically true to who I am. Therefore I have never really tried to brand myself. Rather I just am who I am and do what I love. If that then becomes a personal brand then so be it. As far as how I am being judged by othersâ€"I have learned that no two people will see the same thing and come away with the same opinion of it. Inevitably some people will love what I have to say and do while others will not. Some will see it as positive others will judge it harshly. It goes with the territory. The main thing is that we are authentic and when we are we will find others who will appreciate what we uniquely have to offer them and the world. Rabbi Levi Brackman is a Judaic scholar, teacher, writer and religious leader who has been active in both England and the United States and whose writings are featured regularly in Jewish publications internationally and on the Internet. Brackmans weekly column, which is distributed over the Internet to thousands globally, is also published on Israeli daily Yedioth Achronoths English-language website YNetNews.com. Brackman is also a founding member of The Movement for a Tolerant World, an organization that offers young people in Asia, the Middle East and other parts of the globe, a positive and tolerant ideology that provides them with the opportunity to make real and positive changes in their community and the world.

What You Can Learn from Street Photographers

What You Can Learn from Street Photographers Have you ever heard your manager discuss the importance of possessing “soft skills” to further help with your career growth? Soft skills are known as the interpersonal skills or “people skills,” things like how effectively you communicate, how you manage your time, the ability to think creatively, etc. Unlike hard skills that are easily quantifiable, soft skills are more learned on our own. There are a variety of ways in which we can enhance our soft skills. One such way is picking up a creative or challenging hobby such as painting or writing. Another is to study the habits of those in more creative fields, and learn how they utilize non-technical assets to create a vision that speaks on its own. Invaluable created a neat visual that highlights street photographers, specifically discussing their non-technical skills and what we can learn from them. Street photographers in particular, are masters of observation, studying people, places, and activities in order to best tell a story and communicate. These are the traits that allows them to use their technical, “hard skills” and capture the best image they possibly can. Below are other characteristics of street photographers that Invaluable highlights. Relying on intuition: It’s important to trust your gut, and pursue what inspires you wholeheartedly. Letting go of perfection: It’s okay to failâ€"sometimes this even leads to a better course of action. When you stop trying to make everything perfect, spontaneous, great things can happen. Connecting with others: Fostering real, deep human connections is an essential component of effective team building and communicating. Fueling a passion: Find the things that you’re passionate about, and let your passions shine. Focusing on detail: Eliminate all distractions and take note of important details. What You Can Learn From Street Photographers For more inspiration, look to the visual below, and begin working on your soft skills in conjunction with those more technical skills to advance in both your personal and professional life.

Resume Writing Services Are Essential For High Quality Resumes

Resume Writing Services Are Essential For High Quality ResumesRecruiters usually use resume writing services when they are preparing their next batch of resumes. It's easier to get a head start on the entire process than it is to start with the last minute. The recruiter can just ask the resume writing service to do the hard work for them and not waste any time.Recruiters love it when they can use resume writing services to make the process as easy as possible. They can be given all the templates they need and even do all the research for them, which is a lot of trouble for them to do themselves. This saves time and money that would have been used otherwise. In addition, a recruiter will usually have a template or two already made for them so that they can download the information and write their own resume. These templates can include everything from their name to their company, work history, education, experience, skills, etc. With this information, they will be able to get a pretty good idea of who they are hiring and how they might fit into the company.Recruiters love the ability to save time and effort by outsourcing this process. There is a big possibility that a recruiter will end up spending a lot of time reviewing the resumes of different candidates, or maybe even calling the applicants to schedule interviews. So, using resume writing services will actually save the recruiter time and money and they won't have to waste too much energy or effort in doing it themselves. Many times, the recruiter may even find the best candidate without even making an effort to do it himself. With this in mind, he or she will be able to do the best job possible for the company in question. This in turn will help the company to attract the best of people to apply and therefore give them the best chance of being hired.Companies are willing to pay for the help that they receive from resume writing services. They know that having all of their information in one place, ready to use, will help them a lot in getting more jobs and making more money. So, when they pay for the services, they are really paying for a great deal of flexibility. When making a big decision like this, a recruiter often wants to take his or her time. Resume writing services can do that and more. They are also usually quite reliable and they can be trusted. Some companies might only be hiring for a particular job and they are only putting a few people forward. They might also hire a pool of people and focus on giving each candidate an interview so that everyone has a shot at making the cut. Resume writing services can do all of this for them, which means that they will be able to get each person a good shot at being hired.

The Definition of Resume

The Definition of ResumeThe definition of resume is extremely important in that it determines how it is used and how it is perceived. While you may be trained to use the term in an exact sense, your potential employer is likely to know better and you are more likely to be the person that he will think of when you state the specific example you want to apply the definition of resume to. The definitions of resume may differ from one person to another but they all have a common foundation that the person applying for the job has.First and foremost, the resume is the document which the potential employer will use to determine whether or not you should be hired. It is the first thing they see when they first meet you and they are more likely to remember it if you use it correctly. You want to be as clear and concise as possible in order to get the job as quickly as possible. A resume should be the first thing the employer thinks of when they meet you and be written well in order to be rem embered. The second part of the definition of resume is that it should be your first impression of yourself. When you first get to know someone, they will often take a chance on you based on the resume that you bring along. Remember that this resume will likely be the only time you have with them and what they see on your resume will be the first impression they have.To make the process easier for you, you need to write a great resume. By writing one you will quickly eliminate many of the mistakes and put together a professional looking document that will work well for you. You also want to make sure that you only use information that is relevant and offer up a great history about yourself. You need to let your resume be unique so that it stands out in front of the other applicants. Your resume can be anything you like and there is no reason why you should not make it something that only you can do. There are many companies out there that are willing to help you build your resume and it is up to you to find the right one.The last step in making a good resume is to make sure it is easy to read. The most basic steps you can take to ensure that the resume is readable include using larger fonts than the average person and ensuring that the font color is slightly lighter than the rest of the document. You will also want to remember to outline your key strengths and the reasons you believe you are the best candidate for the job. The idea behind outlining is to offer your potential employer something to think about and they will be more apt to hire you if they see that you are prepared with the answers to their questions. These are just a few small tips that you can use to make your resume stand out from the rest. With these tips in mind, you can start creating the perfect resume and write yourself a great deal of money when you get hired. This way, when you interview you will have nothing to worry about since the interviewer will know you are professional and that you understand the importance of writing a professional resume. The definition of resume is important because it will determine how well you are able to communicate your career development skills to the employer and keep your resume unique so that it stands out from others. Make sure you spend the time required to write the best resume possible.

How Strong is Your Network

How Strong is Your Network When you start a job search, reaching out to people you know for introductions and leads is critical. But it can be challenging to get a handle on and mobilize your network, particularly if it is large or if you have been out of touch with key contacts for a while.A great place to begin assessing the quality and quantity of your network is LinkedIn. Linked in allows you to export your contacts into a spreadsheet, which makes it much easier to understand who is in your network from a high-level view.Once you have exported your contacts, create categories to differentiate the quality of each relationship on LinkedIn. Use some kind of sorting or color coding system to make it easy to examine the quantity of contacts in each category. Heres an example of a sorting system.Strong contacts; those you know well and could probably set up a meeting with fairly easily. Even though these people know you well, they may not be able to articulate your professional value proposition to others, so it makes sense to meet with them and share your positioning with them so they can make the right types of introductions. Highlight their names in yellow.People you know well, but havent talked to in over a year. You need to figure out a strategy for reengaging with this group before launching into requests for information or introductions. Try reviewing their activity on LinkedIn first. Perhaps you can comment on something they wrote or liked. This type of activity often provides the ice-breaker you need to expand the dialogue. Highlight their names in blue.People who are acquaintances, and who you would like to know better. This might be someone that you met at a professional event or had one business meeting with. You may have agreed to connect on LinkedIn, but then never did anything to nurture the relationship. For these contacts, try sharing or commenting on content they post to get on their radar and make it easier to initiate a conversation. Highlight them in green.People who y ou are connected to on LinkedIn, but have no idea who they are. Its not unusual to have several contacts who fall into this category. Take some time to evaluate each person and decide if its worth it to initiate a relationship. Follow their feeds to gain a better understanding of who they are professionally and who they are connected to. Highlight them in purple.Consider doing a similar exercise for other databases you may have for storing contacts. This may be as sophisticated as a formal CRM system or as simple as an old address book or Roledex. The important thing is to capture all your contacts in one place so you can implement a strategic plan for your outreach.Next, you will need to create a plan for how many people you will reach out to at a time. This will vary depending on your job status (someone in a full-time job and also in a job search will generally have less time to dedicate to their search activities). You need to create a situation where no one in your network has to wait to get on your calendar. You must be exceptionally accessible and flexible based on their availability. You may want to start reaching out to just a few contacts each week to determine the cadence of your efforts and then you can decide if and when to increase your weekly outreach.Below are some screenshots to show you how to export your LinkedIn contacts.
